A parent shares a real life experience of using their child’s ANZFAID patient card.

Tonight was a scary one. My 17-year-old daughter has FMF and experienced an anaphylactic reaction. It’s not our first time facing this, so thankfully we had her anaphylaxis plan ready. We followed it, used her EpiPen, and called 000 straight away.

The paramedics arrived quickly, assessed her, and took us to hospital. She was admitted for observation. And then thankfully safely discharged home. We will follow up with her specialist.

One thing that made a stressful situation a little easier was her ANZFAID patient card. When the paramedics asked about her history, we were able to show them the card, and it was reviewed by several hospital staff as well.

It meant less explaining in a high-pressure moment, and the feedback from both paramedics and hospital staff has been really positive. One doctor was so impressed he took a photo.

Grateful for preparation, quick response teams, and tools that make moments like this just that little bit easier
