The following are independent patient reviews of some of the Medactiv cooling products. These reviews do not reflect the views of ANZFAID nor are they an endorsement by ANZFAID. The peer to peer reviews are provided purely for the informational benefit of SAIDs patients.
I’ve been using the Medactiv 12Hr iCool Weekender bag to transport my Anakinra injections, and it has truly exceeded my expectations.
As someone who needs to travel with temperature-sensitive medication, maintaining a consistent, cool environment is non-negotiable and this bag delivers exactly that.
If you rely on Anakinra or any other temperature-sensitive injection, I highly recommend this bag. It gives peace of mind and allows for greater mobility without sacrificing safety.

Quality
The build quality is sturdy, and the interior is well organized, making it easy to pack the medication with the included ice pack.
Temperature
The insulation is excellent and reliable, keeping the medication at the correct temperature range for extended periods. I’ve taken both short trips and longer travel days with full confidence that the contents are safe.
Design
What really stands out is the thoughtful design tailored specifically for medical transport. It’s discreet, professional-looking, and compact enough for travel without compromising on performance. I also appreciate the compartments that help keep everything secure and accessible.
I use 24hr iCool Prestige for my anakinra injections when on shifts with the ambulance. This allows me to carry my medication with me and not be worried about where to store it.
This is a very good product and is very comfortable.
In my opinion, what is missing in the market is a way to transport medication if you are going for a long trip, as there is no way to carry a lot of medication comfortably and safely.

Quality
It is very easy to use, with freezing the icepacks before, easily slotting them in before my shift. It looks very nice and professional and is comfortable to fit in my bag.
Temperature
It keeps the medication cold for my whole shift, and I am not worried at all about leaving my medication in longer.
Design
The meds did not fit well, as the syringe is much smaller than the band in the case however, there are other places to put it, and even though it doesn’t fit well, when the case is kept stable, it still stays. I am also able to have alcohol swabs and Band-Aids in the case which is very comfortable.
If you’re someone who depends on injection or any other medication that requires strict temperature control, you’ll understand the constant stress that comes with travel. Whether it’s an overnight trip, a weekend away, or even just a long day out, keeping your injections within the correct temperature range can feel like an impossible task.
After trying several cooling bags over the years, I finally found the one that actually delivers on its promises, the iCoolWeekender. From the moment I unpacked it, I could tell this was designed for real world practicality, not just looks.
What really impressed me is how reliable and low stress it makes the entire process. I’ve used it for road trips, and not once have I worried about my injections being compromised. It gives me complete peace of mind, something that’s honestly priceless when managing a chronic condition.
After years of juggling makeshift coolers, the iCool Weekender finally feels like it was made for people like us, people who can’t take risks with their medication, but still want to live life fully and independently.
If you’ve ever hesitated to travel or worried about how to manage your injections safely outside the house, I can’t recommend this enough. It’s not just a cooler, it’s freedom, peace of mind, and confidence all in one.

Quality
The build quality is excellent, sturdy, durable, and professional looking enough that it doesn’t scream “medical bag” when you’re out and about. Inside, there’s a thoughtful layout, clearly separated compartments for the medication and the cooling elements, so nothing gets frozen or overheated.
Temperature
The insulation is top notch and truly maintains the cold chain for over 8hrs hours (I’ve tested it multiple times), even during recent warm Australian days.
Design
Another small but meaningful detail is the organisation and portability. There’s enough room to fit several prefilled syringes, a thermometer, documentation, and even a few personal items. The reusable cooling block is lightweight and easy to refreeze, and the bag itself fits neatly inside standard luggage or a carry on.
I was diagnosed with CAPS in 2016 and the medication to treat CAPS is Anakinra, which needs to be stored strictly between 2-8°C. This can make travelling a real challenge. In 2017 I bought some iCool isothermal bags by MedActiv to keep my medication cold for whenever I needed to travel. I bought three different sizes, the small 'Weekender' medium 'Prestige' and large 'MediCube Compact'.
They have a couple of other sizes, the 'Ultra MediCube' and the 'Vaccine Bag' , which I don't have.
I use the different sizes depending on how long I will be away and also how long my actual transit time will be.
The MediCube Compact size nicely fits one box of Anakinra (28 needles) and is rated to keep temperature between 2 and 8°C for 36 hours (maybe not quite that long if you're going somewhere lovely and hot like Queensland in the summertime, which did happen to me - I made it to my accommodation though and the needles were a-ok).
The Prestige size fits one tray of Anakinra comfortably (7 needles) or you can repack the needles to fit a few more if you're careful. This one is rated at 24 hours.
The Weekender fits 3 single needles comfortably. The elastic that holds the needles in place is more suited to chunkier needles like insulin pens, so I cut the plastic trays that hold the Anakinra needles, and I put the needle in along with its section of tray to provide better support but again, you could probably jam in a few more if you wanted to. This small-sized bag is rated for 12 hours.
The Weekender is particularly handy for me even if I'm not travelling, because I need to inject Anakinra twice a day (7am and 7pm) so if I have somewhere I need to be in the evening and don't have time to go home first, I can pop the Weekender in my handbag in the morning and my needle is there ready for me to have when I need it.
I bought these bags about 8 years ago and I am still glad that I did. These sturdy isothermal bags are absolutely fit for purpose. They are well-made with good quality materials and so are the ice bricks that come with them.
And now that I have just had a good look at MedActiv's website, I will be asking Santa for a 'Life in a Bag Combo Pack' for Christmas. Travelling just got easier.

Medactiv 12hr iCool Weekender and Medactiv 24hr iCool Prestige Comparison
Comparison Review by Patient K.
I recently compared the Medactiv 12hr iCool Weekender and the Medactiv 24hr iCool Prestige for transporting Humira pens, and here’s what I found:
Cooling duration and performance
• The Weekender keeps a temperature of 2-8 °C for about 12 hours under normal conditions.
• The Prestige extends that to around 24 hours at the same temperature range.
Capacity and layout
• The Weekender holds up to 3 injector pens plus a gel pack, and it has a small accessory pocket.
• The Prestige can fit 5 injection pens (or about 3 weeks’ worth of medication) along with additional compartments for syringes, needles, meters, and more.
Ideal use cases
• The Weekender is compact, light, and perfect for day trips or overnight use when you’ll be gone for about 12 hours.
• The Prestige is designed for longer trips, full travel days, or when you need to carry extras like backup pens or injection supplies.
Recommendation
If you’re carrying one or two Humira pens for a short trip (half a day or up to 12 hours), the Weekender is a lightweight and reliable option that keeps your medication safe.
However, if your day may be longer, you’ll be traveling for a full day, or you want extra storage for backup pens and accessories, the Prestige is the better choice. Its longer cooling time and additional space offer more reassurance for Humira’s temperature sensitivity.
